Step 3 of your journey

What an accepted claim is actually worth

FECA benefits aren’t a settlement or a lottery — they’re a wage-and-medical system that can run for years. Here’s each piece in plain terms, plus a quick estimator.
66⅔–75%

Wage-loss

Of your pay, tax-free, while unable to work. 75% with dependents.

100%

Medical care

All authorized treatment. No copays, no deductibles.

$0 to file

Cost to start

Filing is free through ECOMP. No lawyer required.

The six types of benefits

Continuation of Pay

Traumatic injuries only: full salary for up to 45 days while OWCP decides. File CA-1 within 30 days.

30-day trigger

Wage-loss compensation

66⅔% of pay (75% with dependents). Federal-tax-free. Paid every 28 days while disability continues.

Medical treatment

All authorized care: surgery, therapy, prescriptions, equipment, and mileage to appointments. No copays.

Schedule awards

Fixed weeks of pay for permanent impairment — arm (312 wks), leg (288 wks), hand (244 wks). Payable even after return to work.

Vocational rehab

Can't return to your old job? OWCP can fund retraining, job placement, and services while compensation continues.

Survivor benefits

Spouse receives 50% of pay (up to 75% with children), plus funeral costs. Filed on Form CA-5.

Quick wage-loss estimator

Plain-math estimate of the FECA formula — not a promise. Compensation is federal-tax-free, which is why many claimants find it replaces more take-home pay than the percentage suggests.

Your official pay rate, premium pay, and caps can change the real number. Nothing you type leaves your device.
